Unique Tenants Consult
- Founder & Principal
Real Estate
My Connection Statement
I empower distressed residential tenants to interact confidently with landlords/property managers, to reclaim the respect and dignity lacking in their conflicting relationships. I do that through my empathy, my industry-specific knowledge and suitable negotiation strategies. I consult over the phone, by email and via Zoom platform.
About Me - My Biography
During my high school days, bookkeeping was my favourite subject. A few years later, upon migrating to Australia in March 1983, I knew that I wanted to pursue an accounting career. Being very focused and career-minded, I completed a Certificate and Diploma in Accounting course.
Then, I started my university degree course in Accounting, of course. However, by the end of the first year, I realized that I gravitated towards understanding human behaviour in the workplace, the pivotal role of culture, differing management styles and conflict resolution strategies. To the great shock of my accounting friends, this led me to pursue the Double Degree in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations, on part-time basis, whilst working part-time. Despite the stress and pressure of university demands, I found the learning journey to be very rewarding, enriching and empowering.
Over the next 25 years or so, life happened – marriage, one son, divorce, single parenting. Completing my Bachelor’s Degree, in extremely extenuating personal circumstances, remains my proudest achievement!!!
Unique Tenants Consult was born out of frustration with the property management sector of the real estate industry. As a tenant who has experienced unprofessional, unskilled and disrespectful customer service in the rental landscape, over a number of years, I developed a burning desire to assist discouraged residential tenants. My extensive market research validated the need for consultancy services, in the private sector. I have long held a deep-seated passion for every individual being treated with fairness, respect and being afforded a reasonable level of customer service, at all times. My litany of frustrating and demoralising challenges strengthened my resolve to educate and empower tenants so they can set a mutually cooperative tone to their relationship with their landlords/property managers. Therefore, I am able to empathise with aggrieved tenants, actively listen to their plight and provide moral support.
My long-term strategic vision is to revolutionise the residential property management market and to contribute towards shaping a respectful environment where all tenants, primarily in Western Australia, are deservingly treated as key stakeholders.
My Expertise
Over the years as a tenant, I have familiarised myself with the residential tenancies legislation and regulations in WA. This has enabled me to successfully sue a real estate agent in the Magistrates Court of Joondalup for several breaches. A few years later, my formal complaint to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulations and Safety (WA) for several breaches by another agency, was found to be well founded. The Department’s investigation concluded that this particular agency had not complied with a few legal provisions.
In order to position myself as an authority in the industry and to deliver accurate and tailored customer service to my clients, I completed the Property Management training – Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate.) This has provided me with industry-specific knowledge of the legal roles and responsibilities of representatives in the property management sector. What struck me throughout the course content was the emphasis on harnessing relationship-building skills with all parties to a residential tenancy agreement.
My Passions
I am passionate about interacting respectfully with people so they feel that they are valued. My aim is to ensure that they leave in much better spirits than they were in, before we met or spoke.
My Interests
I love travelling – locally, interstate and overseas. Finding out about other nations, history, cultures, traditions, economic and political systems are of great interest. I strongly believe that travel is a conducive vehicle for soul-searching, character-building and shapes a person’s outlook on life. Look forward to being able to travel safely, again.
Attending ballet performances is a delightful escape.
I enjoy reading although these days, I tend to read mostly business-related and marketing material!
I also value the simplest of pleasures such as spending time with my perfect partner (and best friend,) walking together along our panoramic Western Australian coastline and soaking in the expansive ocean views.
How I Can Help Other Members
Although my immediate focus is on being the voice of West Australian residential tenants, I am very eager to inform and educate tenants, nationwide. Most states have recently overhauled their legislation towards a near-standardised nationwide framework. I would love to help my valued peers resolve their tenancy grievances.
In addition, as my mother tongue is French, I can assist with translating documents/material for both professional and personal purposes.
