Her Story
Sylvia Wilson’s passion for dogs from an early age saw her leave her job of ten years as manager of a south coast branch of the RSPCA. Sylvia was tired of seeing many people surrendering their dogs that were in their prime due mainly to behavioural problems. Sylvia, along with her husband, provided a free training service to all who would take their dogs home and give them a second chance. Although she saved many, she wanted to do more – she wanted to reach out to more dogs and their owners.
In 1989, Sylvia left her job, sold the family home and formed Bark Busters with her husband. In the last twenty-three years, Bark Busters has grown to be the largest dog training company in the world with over five hundred outlets around the world.
Apart from being the largest dog training company in the world, the company is also the largest dog training company in the USA and the UK. Under Sylvia’s leadership, Bark Busters has spread throughout Australia and around the world to such countries as New Zealand, Canada, Japan, France, Israel and Belgium.
Sylvia Wilson’s dream is to create the largest network of dog trainers around the world, all with the dream to save dog’s lives wherever they may be.
Strategies for Success
- Never be afraid to fail - you might just succeed and if you don’t, you will learn such great life lessons that will help you succeed the next time.
- Find the right people to help you grow your business and invest in them.
- Treat your clients and customers like GOLD – they are what make your business successful.
- Create a procedure for dealing with customer complaints and problems to ensure all complaints are dealt with and resolved. It’s how you deal with a problem that determines whether you fail or succeed in business.
