Her Story
Fiona Horman is the Managing Director of Regency Recordings, the largest Australian-owned manufacturer of audiocassettes, CDs and CD ROMs. A former ballerina who left school at 15, Fiona purchased the company 13 years ago when the plant employed three people and manufactured 1,000 audio cassettes a day.
Today, Regency Recordings employs over 50 staff, manufactures more than 25,000 audiocassettes and 35,000 CDs a day, and has an annual turnover of $60 million. In the past 10 years Fiona has engineered an increase in sales of more than 1,500%. Fiona is an Australian success story in an industry dominated by males and multinationals but she does not rest on any laurels.
She recently completed a major investment in CD, CD-ROM and DVD production facilities, placing her company at the leading edge of multimedia technology in Australia today.
Strategies for Success
- GOALS – Set and don’t forget. Set yourself goals and do not give up on them, no matter what happens along the way. There will always be good times and bad times. Persistence and perseverance do pay.
- CHANGE – Embrace it and make it. Be adaptable to change as nothing ever remains constant, become the change agent and make things happen.
- KNOWLEDGE – Never stop learning, you can’t know enough. Be willing to seek and accept advice from others, find a mentor or mentors and learn and share from their experience and advice.
- HONESTY – Be the real you and others will respond. At all times be true to yourself and everyone around you. Do not try to be someone you are not as you are more likely to succeed if you are the real you.
- HAPPINESS – Adopt your own measures and be proud of them. We are only given one chance at life. If you are passionate and enjoy what you do, you will find success comes easily – remember success can be valued in many ways. Be happy and content with what you have achieved no matter how great or small. Don’t compare yourself to others unless they have the same goals. Be proud of your success.
