About Me - My Biography
I never expected to be in business for myself. I was always a hard working dedicated employee never having to ask for pay rises or promotions as I was always recognised for my efforts. But I didn’t like the 9 – 5 routine and realised (too late in life) that I needed to be my own boss.
My career started off in Tax Accounting then moved to corporate accounting when I was looking for something more interesting than preparing financial statements and tax returns. I sought work in what I thought were interesting fields, radio, film production, advertising. But in the end not even that satisfied me. I also dabbled in a few other careers (real estate for one) but nothing was meeting or satisfying my needs.
So I quit work and I took a big jump to the left and accepted a job working overseas on Cruise Ships in a Public Speaking/Sales Role. Not what I was use to at all and well out of my comfort zone. I loved my job – I was somewhere different everyday, meeting thousands of people every week, doing presentations to hundreds of cruise ship guests (which ended up being easier than I thought – probably helped along by the few amateur theatre productions I did). It was such a rewarding job, but after 5 years I was finding it difficult to stay away from home for long lengths of time.
When I came home in 2006 I knew I was going to start my own business, but didn’t know what I was going to do. When a friend of mine (now my partner) suggested Mortgage Broking. It seemed like a natural fit for me, numbers and real estate, all of which I had experience in, but the best bit was meeting people and helping them to achieve their dream of owning a home.
Is it all smooth sailing – ha!. Of course not but I just focus on the client and what I need to do to achieve their dreams. I’ve always been a big advocate of do the right thing by the client and your rewards will follow. I’m happy to say they have.
I run a small boutique business, provide very hands on, personal service and have managed to grow my business each year.
My most satisfying business achievement was being awarded Top 5 in Australia for Customer Service in 2017 – with an NPS score of +98. That was worth all the effort we put in each day for our clients.
My Expertise
Making chosing a suitable home or investment loan easy for my clients.
Some of my clients are very savvy and don’t need a lot of education or hand holding, whilst others need support and guidance the whole way through the process. I don’t like to waste my clients time, but am very mindful that some things do need to be explained and then confirmed that they understand, even my most savvy clients will walk away with a better/different understanding of things.
Part of us offering good options for our clients is really understanding how they understand and manage their money. This plays a huge part in how we loan structure the loan for them. It’s so important that our clients achieve their goals but that they do so in a way that’s easy for them.
From the outside it looks like all loans are the same, and to a degree they are, but it’s the structure thats personalised for the client based on their needs that makes all the difference, and that’s what we do well.
My Passions
Helping our clients achieve their goals and dreams is at the heart of everything that we do.
My business goals are to achieve my clients personal goals, whatever they may be.
We are also dedicated in managing an ethical business. I will say no to a client if I believe it’s not the right time for them to be taking on debt, or if they are not quite ready. In these instances we work with them by putting together a plan and keeping in touch to see how things are going.
My Interests
It’s not a lie that work consumes me, but outside of that I love to travel. I’ve been lucky enough to see 51 countries and hundreds of cities in our wonderful world and will continue to explore as much as I can or as much as work will allow me.
My second love in life is my little Russian Blue – Zsa Zsa – she doesn’t know it but she helps to bring down my stress levels at the end of a long day.
I also still have a love of live theatre (watching, not performing – there is just no time for that) and we still go to the movies – don’t get me wrong I love vegging at home with Netflix – but some movies just need to be seen at the cinema.
How I Can Help Other Members
If it’s anything property purchase related then I hope that I can offer advice, guidance and connections to other professionals that they might need that will support them through the process of buying or refinancing a property.
On a professional level I am happy to chat to any of the HerBusiness members who just want to check if they have the right structure and the most suitable loan for them. If I can help to save you some money that can be used to increase your cash flow or help you to reduce your debt or grow your wealth quicker then do not hesitate to give me a call to chat.
If anyone wants to talk cruises, I’m happy to do that too.
Why I Became a HerBusiness Member
Definetly for the community and connections to other business women. Over the years I’ve joined a number of groups dedicated to business women, but HerBusiness is at another level. The support, information, resources, connections are far superior to any other group. I saw huge value to me and my business by being a member and not just an observer.
My Member to Member Offer(s)
I would love to help any of the HerBusiness members by offering a no obligation review of their existing home loan or assessing their potential for a home loan, investment loan or renovation loan.
If any of these conversations lead to us managing a loan or refinance application on their behalf I would like continue our charitable efforts by donating 10% of my income to the charity of their choice. Or I can continue to support our preferred charities, Emerge (supporting women and children and freedom from domestic violence. http://emergesupport.org.au/ ) or OzHarvest (food rescue service helping to feed the homeless and those in need in our community. http://www.ozharvest.org/ ).
