The Growth Shift

You Don’t Need More Time. You Need a Different Role.

There’s a particular kind of frustration that has nothing to do with your calendar. You could clear it entirely — cancel calls, block off mornings, adopt whatever “focus time” system everyone recommends — and the frustration would still be there, because it was never really about the hours. It’s about the role you’re still playing in your own business.

Many capable, experienced business owners keep trying to solve this the same way: manage time better, get more disciplined, optimise the schedule. It helps, for a little while. But the relief never lasts, because if you’re still the one solving everything — every client issue, every team question, every decision that lands on your desk — no amount of time management will fix that. The constraint was never your hours. It’s your role.

In this month’s Growth Shift conversation, we explore the shift that actually changes this: from doing the work, to deciding what should happen, to designing a business that runs without you in every room. It builds directly on last month’s conversation about decisions — because deciding well is only the second step. The third is designing yourself out of having to make, or do, so much in the first place.

“If you’re still the one solving everything, no amount of time management will fix that.”

In This Session You’ll Walk Away With

  • Clarity about which level you’re actually operating at right now — doing, deciding, or designing — and why time management alone won’t move you up a level
  • Insight into why capable business owners stay stuck at “doing” long after their business has outgrown it
  • A practical framework for recognising when something should be decided once, handed off, or designed into a system — instead of handled by you, again
  • Perspective on why designing feels slower and less productive in the moment, even though it’s the highest-leverage work you can do
  • A clearer understanding of what it’s actually costing you to remain the one everything runs through
  • One shift you can make this month that moves real weight off your desk, without working harder to earn it
  • Renewed confidence in stepping back from the work without stepping back from leadership

Plus, you’ll receive a practical companion resource to help you name the one thing you’re still doing that you should be deciding or designing instead — and a clear next step to move it up a level this month.

If you’re waiting for more time to free up, it won’t. Join us to find the role that actually fits where your business is now.

Suzi Dafnis

Hi there. I’m Suzi Dafnis, CEO at HerBusiness. My BIG passion is helping women business owners to grow and scale their business, so that they can create their ideal lifestyle and make a difference in the world. Every day I am inspired by the more than 30,000 amazing women (and men!) in our community and I love finding the best education, mentors, and resources from around the globe, to help them get the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. It’s been my privilege to lead HerBusiness (formerly The Australian Businesswomen’s Network) for the past 23 years (two+ decades – WOW!) because, whilst I’ve enjoyed success in business, I’ve also experienced the highs and the lows – sometimes you can feel on top of the world and in control and other times you can feel isolated, exhausted and stuck. What has made the biggest difference for me has always been having great people around me and having a lifelong commitment to learning. That’s why I am so passionate about the work we do here at HerBusiness – providing a Connection Network for women in business to get the mentors, contacts, referrals, knowledge, and skills they need to grow their confidence, make more money, build their businesses, expand their network and create the lives they love. My entrepreneurial journey started in the spare room of my Sydney apartment in 1994 when my business partner and I started a boutique events company that represented speakers and authors from the USA, here in Australia. Over the years I’ve grown multiple multi-million dollar businesses in the events, publishing and education niches – with teams in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Not everything has worked and there has been a degree of trial and error, and a lot of bumps in the road. But I have always had a strong commitment to always surrounding myself with great mentors and like-minded peers – a Connection Network that I can depend on and who can depend on me to be there for them too. I truly do what I love, every day.
