“Books! Books! Books! It may sound a little dated, but the first and most well read business book on my shelf would have to be The E Myth by Michael Gerber, so great for when you first start out to get you clearly out of that excitement, head in the air phrase of start up. The sales chicky babe in me enjoyed Cashvertising by Drew Whitman, great and easy for getting you writing copy that sells. The ‘I am so not like everyone else and neither is my brand’ side of me has a girl crush on Erica Napoletano and her book The Power of Unpopular, which gets you out of thinking about brand the traditional way. The Fire Starter Sessionsby Danielle La Porte really gets you centered on what you want out of life and that the ‘balance of life and work’ doesn’t have to be planned out the way everyone else has done it. At the moment I like Thrive by Adrianna Huffington, because she is Greek, a mum, a successful business woman… and yes, I am sleep deprived! Learning, listening, trying, being guided, mentored – it’s all essential. What self-education does more than anything is allow you to enjoy the experience of business, and feel a part of people’s lives and experiences, without even knowing them! Theres a Japanese proverb, “when sleeping women wake, mountains move.”
